Dia de Los Muertos - Day of the Dead
"Teruscan y Campaneri" - Reunión y Ofrenda - Reunion and Offering
When: Saturday, November 8, 2008. Workshop: 1pm to 4pm, Public Presentation: 4pm to 5pm. Where: La Luz Center, Booker Hall, 17790 Greger Stree.
An historical and cross cultural workshop to understand and participate in an ancient celebration.
We will explore the Day of the Dead in the Mexican tradition and enter into the symbolic world of the pre-Hispanic cultures in order to learn how they can serve us to maintain a healthy and nurturing connection with our ancestors and create a sense of well being in our communities.
- Participants will explore the process of creating an altar for their ancestors, for loved ones who have passed away and for the aspects of oneself that are dying every moment. It will be a time for us to share deep feelings about such a mystery as death and transcendence.
- We will explore how to construct altars, what are the most important elements and from which place within oneself altars are created.
- We will have a personal space for everyone to explore their stories and how to transmit to others this experience and help them to elaborate their own altars.
This celebration will take place November 8, 2008. In the state of Yucatan they call this celebration the “Ochovario” because it happens the 8th day of the month one week later than the first part of the Day of the Dead that takes place November first. The spirits of the loved ones come back this day to be fed.
It is a day of offerings.
