La Luz Center has most succesful "Noche de Luna" event in its history!

10. 9.09 | By DFP in: Press Releases
Noche-de-Luna On Sunday evening October 4th, with clear skies the La Luz Center held its seventh annual Noche de Luna festival in the Historic Barracks on the Sonoma Plaza. Guests arrived wearing traditional Mexican costumes, making for a fun and festive occasion.

It was the biggest and best event yet with over 300 people attending. Drinking chilled Margarita's served by Sonoma Valley's own La Casa Restaurant and enjoying the fine Mexican fair provided by Chef Extraordinare Karen Taylor of Primavera, the evening began on a wonderful note as the crowd mingled and listened to mariachi music.
The evening garnered the La Luz Center its largest amount of dollars ever for the event $179,250. The sales included tickets, sponsorships, auction item, Pinata's and or course the Fund-a-Need. Mario Castillo our Director of Vineyard Workers Services, a program of La Luz Center with his son Alex at his side, gave a very heart warming presentation for the fund-a-need lot, which had a very touching impact on the audience as they raised their paddles vigorously for the lot, in the amount of $47,200. These funds will be used for education, which includes expanding our ESL, computer and GED Adult classes. There was also a special auction lot for a fun fabulous party being held at the "Little Switzerland" on March 6th of 2010, where caterer Karen Taylor of Primavera, will again show off her cooking skills with creative Mexican reciepes, along with live music and dancing. This event at $100.00 per person is still open, so make your reservation now and remember all monies going to La Luz are TAX DEDUCTIBLE.

With our soft economy and with other auctions not doing as well as expected, La Luz is so happy and excited about the results of the event. Our Noche de Luna committee headed by our three chairs, Martha Rosenblatt, Pam Story and Patsy Wynn, led a Noche de Luna volunteer committee team of 18 members in making this the best event ever for La Luz. They have been working tirelessly for nine months in preparing for this event and along with the work of all the other volunteers including staff members Brenda Serrano and Amy Doherty and our vendors made for the best Noche ever.
