By La Luz Center - On April 5, La Luz had the opportunity to honor three of our wonderful volunteers: Mary Solar, Betty Ann Bruno and Craig Scheiner. The event was the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County’s thirty-third annual volunteer recognition luncheon, held at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel in Santa Rosa.
The honorees were accompanied by staff members Ellen LaBruce, Silvia Ramirez and Shelley Rieman, as well as Ana Byerly who is a La Luz board member and Mary Solar’s daughter. Mary and Betty Ann are office volunteers.
They each have a designated day of the week to spend with us in the front of the office at the “volunteer desk”. They help clients in many ways: filling out forms, translating documents, making appointments, obtaining information, receiving a bag of food.
Additionally, they answer the phone, make phone calls and help us with all kinds of projects. And it doesn’t stop there. Both women help us at special events like Cinco de Mayo and Día de los Muertos.
Craig is a professional photographer who offers his talent for all of our special events. In addition to enjoying his photos and artistry, we use his photographs for our note cards, invitations and in press releases. Craig and Betty Ann produced a promotional video about La Luz.
This wonderful film shows what brochures or newsletters cannot fully express: La Luz in action-- clients, community, staff working together to build a strong and healthy multi-cultural community in our valley.
