(Left) Mistress of Ceremonies Sheila Whitney and Auctioneer Skip Domingos urge on the bidding. (Right) Betty Ann Bruno, Elsa Nelson and Anne Vander Ende win a Girls’ Night on the Town in San Francisco.
Brisk weather stimulated the bidding at La Luz Center’s fourth annual Noche de Luna fund raising event last Saturday evening in the Sonoma Barracks. Mariachis serenaded as guests sampled Yucatecan cuisine served up by Karen Taylor of Primavera.
The quarter moon smiled as bidders and patrons showed their support for La Luz Center’s community programs by raising over $100,000. Auctioneer Skip Domingos tempted guests with a variety of lots - a high point of the bidding was the fund-a-need lot, which raised $25,000 to fund La Luz’s Computer Learning Center for 2007.
“We are thrilled by the support we have received from the community,” said Ellen LaBruce, executive director of La Luz. “The committee, which was chaired by JaMel Perkins, worked very hard to make this an enjoyable evening that conveys the warmth and richness of the Mexican culture.”
La Luz Center’s signature event funds their community services, including English and computer literacy programs, basic services, and cultural exchange events. For more information about about La Luz Center, please contact the office at 707-938-5131.
