La Luz had an opportunity to honor two of our volunteers: Taylor Colvey and Ann VanderEnde. The event was the Volunteer Center of Sonoma County’s 34th annual volunteer recognition luncheon, held at the Hyatt Vineyard Creek Hotel in Santa Rosa. The honorees were accompanied by staff members Angie Sanchez and Kara Reyes. Taylor Colvey is our Thursday night ESL (English as a second language) teacher.
She has helped improve the ESL program by putting together a teacher’s manual with lesson plans. The lessons are great for all beginners, because every week is a self-contained topic: “At the doctors”, “Housing”, “Family” “Emergencies”, etc. Taylor says she loves working with the students and loves La Luz.
Ann VanderEnde is our Thursday office volunteer, spending the day with us at the “volunteer desk”. She helps in many ways: filling out forms, translating documents, making appointments, sharing resource information, distributing food and answering the phone. Ann loves to travel and take Spanish classes.
And it doesn’t stop there. Both women help us at special events like El Día de los Muertos and Cinco de Mayo. La Luz is very grateful for having such wonderful volunteers. Our Thursdays are extra special!
