No, La Luz is a private non-profit organization that has no official connections with any government agency. A board of directors, composed of community members, sets policy.

La Luz was founded in 1990 by community members.
Who can receive services from La Luz?
La Luz serves all community members without regard to race, color, religion, creed, economic, gender, national origin, age, legal status, disability, military or veteran status, or any other legally protected status.
Does La Luz share information about me with other people or organizations?
La Luz treats all information collected about clients as confidential; it is not for public or government access.
How does La Luz serve the community?
La Luz provides some direct services. It also provides space and/or resources to other non-profit organizations serving the community. In some cases it joins with other organizations to provide services.
What does La Luz do to get its money for services and operations?
La Luz raises contributions from community members, grants and private foundations. La Luz also organizes its own fundraising activities.
Can I donate my old computer, furniture or any other material item to La Luz?
Unfortunately, La Luz Center can not accept material donations such as furniture, clothing or computers. We just do not have the resources to ship, store, and process such items. Please Contact F.I.S.H. (Friends In Sonoma Helping) at (707) 996-0111, which is one of the local charitable agencies that may accept these items.
Does La Luz charge for services?
No, all services La Luz provides are free, some classes, however, solicit small contributions to help pay for the cost of materials. Donations for services are welcome but not required.
Which classes are free and which ones not?
La Luz's educational workshops are free. There is a small fee for the English and computer classes. Scholarships and reduced fees are offered - no one is prevented from access to classes because of inability to pay.
When is La Luz open to the community?
La Luz is open Monday through Friday from 9 am to 1 pm. After these hours some exceptions are made for emergencies or critical situations, but you must call to make an appointment.
Can I drop in for services?
La Luz encourages people to make appointments by calling 938-5131 during office hours. In case of emergency contact the office as soon as possible.
How do I contact La Luz with questions or concerns?
Call 938-5131 and ask for Brenda Serrano, Director Assistant. Also, the Board meetings are held the fourth Thursday of the odd months at 5:30pm at the Sonoma Valley Inn and are open to the public. Please call the La Luz office for details.
