Supporting Sonoma Valley Voters

“Voter information is available year round at La Luz, the Sonoma Valley-based organization that began in 1985 to attend to the needs or immigrant families and workers. Voter outreach has been a local effort for years at the nonprofit.

“Voter registration efforts matter in Sonoma Valley because citizens will be able to participate in elections to influence decisions on local, state, and national issues that directly affect them, their families, and their communities,” said Executive Director Leonardo Lobato.

This cycle, La Luz is teaming with Sonoma Immigrant Services to offer more support for potential voters, including a Spanish-language voter workshop and ongoing outreach through the end of October, Lobato said.

Though the organization serves everybody, about 90% of the population La Luz serves is Latino, Lobato said.

The ground-level work is being done by 13 Promotoras—or outreach workers—who are expected to share voter registration information with about 1,000 people in Sonoma Valley “
