La Luz honored by Senator Dodd

On Thursday, October 3, Senator Dodd honored La Luz by stopping by the Center to present Executive Director Leonardo Lobato and his staff with a California Senate Resolution commending La Luz Center "for the outstanding contributions it has made to the Sonoma Valley community.”

Noting the growing Latino community La Luz serves—Latinos now make up approximately 28% of the Sonoma Valley’s population and 64% of the public school enrollment—and the many life-enhancing services it provides, including basic-needs resources, parent-child education programming, English-language training, small-business support, and immigration assistance, the resolution applauded La Luz for evolving over the 40 years since Ligia Booker founded the center in 1985 into “a leading organization in the Sonoma Valley Community, a dynamic force striving to improve the quality of life of its members and the general community while serving as a sanctuary of hope and a creator of opportunities for all.”

“This is a recognition for all people who have worked, volunteered and/or supported La Luz and our community since its founding 40 years ago,” said Lobato. “We will proudly hang the resolution in the reception area of our office building.”
